Odds stacked against Birchak in Brazil

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

“Hoo Vai Morrer”.

It’s a chant that Anthony Birchak knows will rain down on him Saturday night when he faces Thomas Almeida at UFC Fight Night 77 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In portugese it means, “You’re going to die”.

He’ll hear it because Almeida (20-0) is a Sao Paulo native, the hometown kid who enters this bantamweight bout undefeated.

Almeida is appearing in his 4th UFC bout. It will be the third fight for Birchak since signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship last year.

The Sahuarita-native (12-2, 1-1 UFC) is coming off an impressive first round knockout of Joe Soto in June at UFC Fight Night New Orleans.

UFC Fight Night 77 airs on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) beginning at 8 p.m. Tucson time.
