Paving precedes highway closure east of Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Paving operations will force lane closures on I-10 this week, between Tucson and Benson, according to Department of Transportation.

Westbound I-10 will funnel to one lane near the State Route 90 junction through Friday, November 13. Drivers should plan for slowing while driving in this direction.

In addition, eastbound I-10 will restrict to one lane on Tuesday, November 10 and Wednesday, November 11 just west of Mescal Road. A few ramps will close from I-10 to the Empiria area while paving takes place here.

Westbound I-10 will then see lane closures on Thursday, November 12 near Mescal Road.

Finally, travelers can plan for slowing on eastbound I-10 on Friday, November 13 east of the Marsh Station Road area, while crews pave that portion of the highway.

This paving is all scheduled during the daylight hours, ADOT said. Drivers should plan for extra time in each direction.

A significant, overnight closure is also set to take place on a portion of westbound I-10 next week, on Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday, November 18. This will force drivers to take a 67 mile detour as they head into Tucson from Benson. It will add about two hours of drive time.

This is all part of a $15 million project scheduled to improve 17 miles of I-10 east of Tucson. The work is set to wrap up in spring of next year.
