TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The #1 ranked featherweight in the world Oscar Valdez is coming home.

Valdez (18-0, 15 KOs) was born in Nogales, Sonora but grew up in Tucson, where he first fell in love with the sports.

“I’m so glad to be back to Tucson,” said Valdez, a two-time Mexican Olympian. “I have a lot of family and friends still in the city.”

He will take on Ernie Sanchez (15-6-1) of The Philippines at the Tucson Arena on Saturday, December 12 in a ten-round bout.

Valdez is the WBO #1 world rated featherweight.

Jose Benavidez (23-0, 16 KOs), the powerful unbeaten junior welterweight from Phoenix, will also appear on the Top Rank card.

Benavidez is the interim WBA 140-pound champion.

The Top Rank undercard bouts will include super middleweight Jess Hart (18-0), Olympic middleweight silver medalist Esquiva Falcoa (11-0) and hard-punching junior welterweight Alex Saucedo (20-0).
