PIMA COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A Night Under the Stars is being hosted by the Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation on Friday, Nov. 20 at the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa in Green Valley.
"We've hosted five of these stargazing nights at Canoa and more than 500 people have attended, including some from as far away as Marana and Oro Valley," said Valerie Samoy, NRPR special staff assistant, in a recent release. "We're lucky to have six to 10 astronomers at each event helping our visitors view the night sky and identify various constellations. This is fast becoming a popular activity at the ranch as the skies are perfect for night viewing."
Volunteers from the Sonora Astronomical Society will help visitors use telescopes for their celestial viewing and offer an educational introduction to the night sky. This is a free, family-friendly event.
Stargazing will begin at 6 p.m., visitors can enter the ranch at 5 p.m. to enjoy a self-guided tour of the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa headquarters before the event.
Flashlights are recommended for after-dark walking and visitors can bring lawn chairs if they would like. For more information, contact Valerie Samoy at 724-5220 or visit the Canoa Ranch website.
