TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Fernando and Sophia Richter are on trial in connection with alleged incidents at their home in Tucson.

The Richters are facing child abuse and three kidnapping charges. Regardless of what happens here in Pima County, they will also face charges in Pinal County.

Fernando and Sophia Richter are accused of holding Sophia's three daughters captive inside their Pinal and Pima county homes in filthy prison-like conditions for up to two years.

Tiffany Davila, a spokeswoman for the Pinal County Attorney's Office, said officials there will pursue the charges against the Richters no matter what happens in Pima.

In Pinal, Fernando is facing 15 charges (one count each of child molestation, sexual abuse and aggravated assault, nine counts of child abuse, three counts of kidnapping) while Sophia is facing nine charges (six counts of child abuse, three counts of kidnapping).

Davila also said the Richters, if convicted in both counties, would serve their time in Pima first.
