The Arizona Wildcats hockey team renews their rivalry with the Arizona State Sun Devils this weekend.
Although the Friday and Saturday games won’t look much different to the average fan, they will have a turn from the past.
The Sun Devils now play NCAA Division I so they no longer field a ACHA Division I club team, like UA.
ASU is still supporting two ACHA squads at the Division II level, including their Elite Squad that won the Division II national championship last season.
The Sun Devils D2 Elite club (15-2-2) will be the one traveling to Tucson this weekend for 7:30 p.m. games at the Tucson Convention Center.
It’ll be the first of five meetings this season between the two teams.
UA (6-7-2) lost their initial meeting with the Sun Devils new NCAA entry, an 8-1 decision on October 3rd at the Gila River Arena.
The Wildcats will play host to ASU’s NCAA team for one game in Tucson on Friday, February 19.
The Sun Devils overall have won 48 of the last 49 meetings between the two schools on the ice.
