TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Communications Division of the Tucson Police Department delivered holiday cheer and a whole lot more to students at Imago Dei Middle School on Thursday, Dec. 17.
The department "gift adopted" all 70 students at the school and helped host a Christmas party.
"This effort is to provide them with a special and joyous holiday season," the group said in a news release. "Gifts include shoes, socks, shirts, sports equipment, CD', gift cards, games and toys."
The students also received classroom supplies - pens, pencils, paper, erasers and similar items.
The TPD said Santa's Helpers, Inc., donated jackets and various sports balls while Famous Footwear gave each student a $30 gift card.
"Many of these students and families have very limited means," said a TPD spokesman. "This effort is to provide them with a special and joyous holiday season."
This is the 5th year the TPD communications division has participated in this event. Students, all ranging from 11-13 years old, received a variety of gifts.
This event started out as a community partnership with the Imago Dei Middle School Board of Directors and Santa's Helpers, Inc., who provided jackets and sports balls. In addition, Famous Footwear donated $30 gift cards for each student.
