TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The parents of the smallest victim of the Jan. 8 mass shooting in Tucson have been invited to the White House on Tuesday, Jan. 5, when President Barack Obama is expected to announce a set of new executive actions aimed at tightening the nation's gun laws.
The Arizona Republic reported John and Roxanna Green have been invited to attend the event by Obama.
Their daughter, Christina-Taylor Green, was one of the six people killed when a gunman opened fire outside a northwest-side grocery store in 2011.
Christina was there with a family friend to meet Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was seriously wounded in the attack.
According to the Associated Press, the executive orders will seek to:
• Expand background checks on gun sales by forcing more sellers to register as federally licensed gun dealers.
• Improve reporting of lost and stolen weapons.
• Beefing up inspections of licensed dealers.
