Everything is status quo for Cienega girls basketball

MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Another new coach, but the same results.

Cienega girls basketball is on their third coach in the last three seasons but the theme is still the same, winning.

The Bobcats (11-1) beat Marana Friday night 50-38 to win for a ninth consecutive game. It was the second time Cienega has beaten the Tigers this season. The Bobcats took down the Tigers 47-31 on December 29 at the Flowing Wells Holiday Tournament.

Cienega despite their impressive overall record is ranked just 17th in the initial MaxPreps state rankings.

Deia Mack is running the show this season in Vail. She takes over for Matt Ruiz who left after one season.

Ruiz replaced Paul Reed who left for an assistant coaching job at Long Beach State after leading the Bobcats to the state championship game in 2014.

Cienega lost 37-30 to Seton Catholic. The Bobcats advanced to the state semifinal last season before losing in overtime to an Ironwood Ridge team they had blown out during the regular season.
