Comet Catalina will make its closest pass to Earth this weekend. Even so, it is still a long ways away. According to Earthsky.com, at its closest, Comet Catalina will be around 68 million miles from Earth.
The best chance to view the comet should be the few hours leading up to sunrise on Sunday morning. To find the comet you will likely need a pair of binoculars or a small telescope. It will be easiest to find if you can find the Big Dipper first. Here is a chart that shows where the comet will be with respect to the Big Dipper in the coming days.
