A day after finding itself in the top 15 in both the NFCA and USA Softball Preseason Polls, the Arizona softball team has been selected to finish third in the Pac-12 in a vote of the conference’s coaches.
The Wildcats’ 49 votes were two behind UCLA for second place, and 15 behind Oregon, whose 64 votes were the most in Pac-12 preseason poll history. The complete coaches’ poll is listed below.
Arizona’s third place selection mirrors its finish from a 13-11 conference finish a year ago when the Wildcats advanced to the program’s 10th NCAA Super Regional in 11 seasons.
The Wildcats are one of six Pac-12 teams in the Preseason NFCA Top 25, released on Tuesday, joining Oregon (6), UCLA (7), Washington (20), California (21) and Arizona State (22). Utah is also receiving votes in the poll.
The Pac-12 as dominated collegiate softball as 23 of a possible 33 national titles have been claimed by Pac-12 teams, including eight Wildcat championships.
Up Next: Arizona will open the 2016 campaign at home as it will host the Hillenbrand Invitational Feb. 11-14 at Hillenbrand Stadium. The Wildcats and Southern Utah will open the season on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m..
