Tucson High Hoops sweeps into state

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It was a good night to be a Badger.

Both the Tucson High Girls and Boys Basketball teams won Division II Section IV tournament championships at Mountain View High School on Saturday night.

The No. 1 seed girls beat third-seeded Ironwood Ridge 52-50 on as basket by junior Alize McCormick with one second to play.

The 5th-ranked Badgers (25-3) have won seven in a row since a 57-50 loss to Canyon del Oro. They secure the automatic berth to the state tournament.

Both teams however were locks for the state tournament as the Nighthawks are ranked 11th in Division II.

The 24th-ranked Tucson Boys on the other hand were sitting on the bubble until they pulled upsets of Salpointe Catholic (69-54) in the semifinals and then top seed Catalina Foothills (50-44) in the championship game.
