Arizona Men's Golf hosting NIT at Omni National

The Arizona Wildcats will host the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) on Sunday, Feb. 28- Tuesday, Mar.-1 at the Omni Tucson National Catalina Golf Course. Arizona tees off at 8 a.m. MST.

The Wildcats roster will consist of Kolton Lapa, Jake Kreuz, Jordan Gumberg, Peter Koo, and Max Donohue. George Cunningham, Tyler Moore, Andrew Garner, Martin Larrea, Austin Stadeli and Ari Gulugian will all compete as individuals in the NIT. This will be the first time this season all 11 Cats will compete in the same tournament.

"By giving every player on our team the opportunity to compete, we collect experience and learn what is working and where we can improve," said head men’s golf coach Jim Anderson, “The competition for spots on our top 5 is getting better each week and this week will offer everyone a chance to kick start the second half of the spring season.”

Competing alongside the Wildcats in the NIT are Colorado State, Iowa State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Stephen F. Austin, UC Davis, Utah, UTEP, and Wyoming.

“Playing at home is a great advantage for our team,” Anderson continued. “We are excited to compete at Omni Tucson National after getting to prepare here all week. The golf course is in great shape and the weather will be fantastic. The conditions will promote scoring and our guys have focused on wedges and putting.”

The tournament is a 54-hole stroke play 18 holes each day, with the low four scores counted each round for the team total. The Arizona Golf Association will oversee rules.

The tournament will be played on the 7262-yard Omni Tucson National Catalina Golf Course designed by Robert Van Hagge and Bruce Delvin. The course has been selected as one of Golf Digest’s “75 Best Golf Resorts in North America.” Omni has hosted the 2006 NCAA Regionals as well as continues to be the site for the The Tucson Conquistadores Classic, an official PGA TOUR Champions Tour event.
