TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Sentencing of the Tucson couple convicted of imprisoning and abusing three young girls was delayed on Monday.
Sophia and Fernando Richter were found guilty on three counts of child abuse and kidnapping in December 2015. They were supposed to be sentenced Monday but a judge ordered Fernando Richter to undergo another mental health evaluation and has reset the hearing for March 10.
The Richters were accused of holding Sophia's three daughters captive inside their Pinal and Pima county homes in filthy prison-like conditions for up to two years.
One of the victims spoke exclusively with KOLD News 13's Barbara Grijalva after the judge's decision. It is the first interview she has done since escaping the Richters' home in November 2013. We are not identifying her because she is a victim in the case.
