COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Coronado National Forest, Douglas Ranger District, has temporarily closed National Forest Service Road (NFSR) 42 in the Chiricahua Mountains when winter weather causes potentially hazardous conditions.
Addtional road closures are those only accessible from the portion of NFSR 42 between the junction of NFSR 42 and NFSR 42C on the west side of the mountain and the junction of NFSR 42 and NFSR 42B on the east side of the mountain. The roads are expected to reopen April 15, 2016, but may open earlier if weather conditions are favorable.
While the roads are closed, Rustler Park Campground will also be closed.
The purpose of the seasonal closure is to provide for public safety on Forest Service Road 42 and associated roads and Rustler Park Campground. Hazardous road conditions, including the presence of snow and ice on roads, can lead to difficulty in traveling and the possibility of motorists sliding on road surfaces or becoming stuck in the snow.
