D-backs taking it easy with Ziegler

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

We are almost to the halfway point of Spring Training and we’ve finally seen Brad Ziegler.

The Diamondbacks closer is not hurt. He’s just easing into 2016.

Ziegler pitched a scoreless fifth inning Saturday in the D-backs 3-0 win over the defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals at Salt River Fields

The veteran requested and was granted a lighter workload this spring by manager Chip Hale.

Ziegler for the first time in his career knows what his role in the bullpen will be. He took over as Arizona’s closer in early-2015 from a struggling Addison Reed and never gave it back.

The 36-year old went on to record a career-high 30 saves while posting a 1.85 ERA.
