Circular solar burst caught on cam by NASA

While the sun may appear to be relatively calm as it moves across the sky, it is actually quite active when looked at closely.  The video above shows the view from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory(SDO) last week as a circular solar filament rotated into view as it was flaring out from the sun.

The video segment was made from a series of images taken every 12 seconds by the Solar Dynamics Observatory over a 3 hour time period.

According to earthsky.com, the filament that you are seeing in the video is made up of clouds of gas suspended above the sun by magnetic forces.
