MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Two of Southern Arizona’s top prep track stars were on display Wednesday afternoon in a tri-meet featuring Tucson, Catalina Foothills and Mountain View High Schools.

Badgers sophomore sprinter Neysia Howard has the second best time in the state this season in the 100 meters.

She ran a 12.12 at the Casa Grande Kiwanis Invitational last Friday to break the one-season old school mark of 12.19.

Howard also has the third fastest time in the state this season in the 200 meters (25.26).

Meanwhile Mountain View senior Justice Summerset has the top high jump in the state this season at 7’0.

The jump is also one of the top-five in the country. Tristan Schultheis of Titusville (FL) Astronaut High School leads the nation with a high jump mark of ‘7’2.

Summerset this past weekend verbally committed to jump for Fred Harvey’s track and field program at the University of Arizona.

Although other schools came a calling, it was a foregone conclusion that Summerset would stay home and be a Wildcat. He has been a member of the Tucson Elite Athletic Club track program, run by Harvey and his wife, Tucson High track coach Janet Harvey, for years.
