TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Ironwood Ridge’s baseball team just could not get a shutdown inning Thursday afternoon in their 11-7 loss to top-ranked Salpointe Catholic at the Lancers’ Gleeson Field.

Every time the #14 Nighthawks scored, Salpointe Catholic (19-3) matched them in the next half inning.

Ironwood Ridge scored a pair of runs on sacrifice flies in the first to take a 2-0 lead but the Lancers answered off Nighthawks starter and losing pitcher Nick Estrella (3-2) in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run single by Jose Osete.

Trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Ironwood Ridge (13-5-2) scored three times to get back to within a run, only to see Salpointe Catholic match with a three spot of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Same thing in the sixth, the Nighthawks scored twice but so did the Lancers.

Robby Campillo had three hits and three runs batted in for Salpointe Catholic, ranked #1 in Division II. Tommy Garcia drove in a pair of runs and Alejandro Hernandez hit just the second home run of the season for the Lancers.

Garcia (6-0) went all the way on the mound to get the win for Danny Preble's crew. The senior right-hander allowed five earned runs on seven hits.
