TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The lower 48 states have had the third warmest year while Alaska is having its warmest year ever.

So far this year we in the contiguous states have had an average temperature 4.6 degrees above the normal. This ranks the year as the third warmest so far. Alaska has never been warmer than the current year.

Rainfall for the year in the states have been pretty close to normal.

March of 2016 was the fourth warmest March ever for the lower 48 states. The states were 6 degrees above normal for the month. Every state had an average temperature well above the normal temperature but no state had a record high average temperature; some silver lining in such a warm month.
