TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Desert Christian’s baseball team was named the new #1 team in Division Four at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

By 6 p.m. they had already been knocked off the throne.

Isaias Lucero pitched seven strong innings and Joey Sullivan powered the first home fun of his career to give 7th ranked Pueblo a 4-2 win over the Eagles.

The victory pulled the Warriors (14-9, 7-1) even with Desert Christian (18-4, 7-1) in Section III play with two league games left for each team.

Lucero (5-1, 1.19) was cruising to a possible shutout until a sixth inning miscommunication in the Warriors outfield between centerfielder Luis Armenta and leftfielder Nickolas Robles allowed a Josh Repavich routine two-out fly ball to fall for a two-run double.

The miscue cut Pueblo’s lead from 3-0 to 3-2.

Sullivan though homered in the bottom of the sixth to give the Warriors some breathing room.

Lucero finished the game by picking off a runner at 1st base.

The 14 wins for Pueblo are the most for the program in five years (16 in 2011).

The Eagles entered the road game off a 6-4 win Monday over the previous top-ranked team in Division IV, Glendale Joy Christian.

DCS is attempting to win a fourth straight state championship.
