TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Salpointe Catholic's loss is Cienega's gain.

Bobcats head football coach Pat Nugent confirmed to Tucson News Now on Saturday night that Class of 2018 top football prospect Jamarye Joiner enrolled at the high school on Friday.

Joiner's family resides within the Vail School District. The move came a day after Joiner was dismissed from the Lancers for the second time in less than a year.

"He gets a clean slate for now," said Nugent, who will start his second season at Cienega in the Fall. "As long as he does the right things, he will play with us next year."

Joiner did not play at all in 2015 after being re-assigned from Salpointe Catholic to a charter school for what was termed administrative reasons.

“It's an unfortunate situation,” said head football coach Dennis Bene in a statement Thursday to Tucson News Now. “I'm personally disappointed that I was unable to impress upon him the importance of proper conduct while being a student athlete at Salpointe Catholic High School.”

Joiner played nine varsity games for the Lancers as a freshman in 2014. He threw for 203 yards, ran for 214 yards and three touchdowns and caught 22 passes for 345 yards and three more scores. He finished third on the team in total yards.

The 6’1 195-pound athlete was recently listed as the Class of 2018's #9 prospect in the state by the Arizona Republic.

Cienega finished 4-6 last season, the first for Nugent after longtime coach Nemer Hassey stepped down to concentrate on his role as school principal. The Bobcats advanced to the Division II state semifinals in
