The fifth-ranked Oregon Ducks entered the weekend with the nation's leading offense. The pitching staff, though, has been the story.
A day after Cheridan Hawkins threw a one-hit shutout, freshman Megan Kleist (W, 15-3) followed with a shutout of her own. Oregon (37-6, 15-2 Pac-12) won the game 7-0 and secured a series victory over Arizona (32-16, 9-8 Pac-12).
Taylor McQuillin (L, 12-6) held her own against the Oregon offense, allowing just four hits over 4.2 innings, including two homers by Nikki Udria, who drove in four of Oregon's seven runs. McQuillin struck out seven and walked three in the start.
Oregon scored first when Nikki Udria hit a two-out solo home run, her team-high 13th of the season, to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.
The Ducks added to the lead when a sacrifice fly put the Ducks on top 2-0 in the third.
Mauga notched two of Arizona's five hits, including a leadoff double in the fourth.
A walk and a HBP put two on for the Ducks in the fifth. Udria homered to right for the second time in the game, this a three-run shot to give Oregon a 5-0 lead.
