Arizona's offense managed just one run on four hits, wasting Taylor McQuillin's gem in the second game of the series as Oregon State evened things up with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Arizona scored a run before Oregon State could record an out in the bottom of the first inning, but Bev Miller (W, 12-9) and Meehra Nelson (S, 6), pitched in and out of trouble the rest of the game and did not allow Arizona to cross the plate again.
Seven of Arizona's 10 runner left on base were in scoring position. Arizona was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile, Oregon State put a runner in scoring position just twice; the Beavers stranded two total runners in the game.
McQuillin (L, 12-7) went the distance for Arizona. The freshman allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Oregon State scratched across a run in the top of the first courtesy of a bunt single, an advancement and a seeing-eyed single.
Arizona responded with a run on the first, but Miller stranded the bases loaded to keep the game tied at 1.
The Beavers reclaimed the lead on Kayleen Shafer's solo homer in the fifth.
Arizona threatened in the seventh, but Meehra Nelson entered to retire the final two Wildcats with the tying run in scoring position.
The Wldcats and Oregon State will decide the series on Sunday at noon.
