TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - India is the eight largest country in area on the planet. They are now planning on reversing effects they have done to the land with a chunk of change many could only dream about.
6.2 billion dollars are being focused on planting more trees to regrow their forests. This has been passed by the lower house in India and is now waiting for the upper house to pass the bill.
Currently 21% of the land area is covered by forests. After the 6.2 billion is spent on planting trees and saving land for them the country is focused on having forests cover 33% of the land.
The 6.2 billion dollars have been funded through private companies over the past 12 years. With India being the second most populous country in the world, the land has been under intense pressure and this money should help relieve that pressure and restore the land.
There are questions on whether or not the corrupt Indian government could follow through with the plan if approved or if the officials would just keep the money in their own pockets.
