We got a bit of break this year, but the 100-degree temperatures we're so used to seeing in the summer are finally arriving. And it's worth a reminder – you need to be ready for this heat – especially if you're a newcomer to southern Arizona.
That means making sure you're drinking enough water if you have to work in the heat. Dehydration can sneak up on you. Many people think they're OK when they're not. When in doubt, drink more water.
And we need to keep an extra close eye on our children. Every summer we hear about kids who are left in hot cars. Unfortunately, the results are sometimes tragic. We can ask the police and security at shopping centers to watch out for children left in cars – but the responsibility starts with us. Check and double check.
It doesn't take too much effort to be heat-smart. And even if you've been living here for years – a little reminder is worth it.
