UA Rugby stopped in national semifinal

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The title run for Arizona Wildcats Rugby fell short at the Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Wildcats came from behind Sunday to beat Life University 17-12 in an overtime Quarterfinal before falling to the California Golden Bears 38-5 in the Cup Semifinals.

Cal beat UCLA to win their fourth straight CRC and become the first squad to win the 15s and 7s Rugby national titles in the same year.

The Wildcats Tyler Sousley was named the Tournament Dream Team as the sophomore from Osceola, Indiana tied for the second most tries at the Championships with five.

Arizona (4-1) advancing the Collegiate Rugby Championships' Final Four marked the fifth time in the seven-year history of the event that UA has finished in the Top 5.

The Wildcats’ Women’s Rugby club (2-3) concluded their stay at the CRC with a pair of wins Sunday beating Temple (25-5) and Rutgers (15-10).
