Firecracker 50 kicks off holiday weekend of sports in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Speedway is hosting the Firecracker 50 race on Saturday, July 2nd.

Fans can watch 3 full hours of racing featuring Super Late Model cars, Trucks, Modifieds and Bombers.

This is the first full season of racing in the Truck division. Brandon Farrington is the current points leader followed by Jeremy Smith and Bill Black.

Reigning Super Late Models points champion Chuck Wares leads his division with two victories already this season. 2015 Rookie of the Year Vanessa Robinson is in second place and Joe Paladenic in third.

Dylan Jones has won the other two races in the series this season and sits in 6th place.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the racing starts at 7:00 p.m.  Fireworks will begin around 9:45 p.m. regardless whether the night of racing is complete or not.
