We talk about the importance of staying hydrated a lot during the warm months in southern Arizona.  While hydrating yourself is very important, it is also important to remember the extra needs that our pets have during the warm season.  Petsafe has created an infographic to help educate the public on the importance of proper pet hydration. Check it out:

Just like humans, pets are composed of mostly liquids.  As the graphic mentions, our pets need about 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day.  Do you know the signs of dehydration in your pet?  Here is a list of the most common symptoms:

Vomiting and/or diarrhea

Lack of energy

Excessive and ongoing panting

Loss of appetite

Sunken, dry eyes

Dry and sticky gums

Loss of skin elasticity (when pulled or moved, the skin will not go back to its original place)
