He's been identified as Dr. Roger Haar, a well-known lab manager who was with the University of Arizona Physics Department for 25 years.

Sumit Mazumdar, Department Head of the UA Physics Department, said Haar was set to retire in August.

Haar had been on life support since the crash occurred.

Doctors were hopeful he could survive the surgery, but after consulting with his wife, Margo Haar, and his two brothers, his family decided to take him off life support.

“We are all extremely saddened," Mazumdar said. "He was a lab manager for 25 years and touched thousands of students’ lives."

Witnesses at the time of the crash said the driver ran a red light and hit Haar in the intersection.
