This time Calgary denies FC Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Dominick Zator never let the ball on his game-winning goal touch the ground.

As a result FC Tucson is not touching the Premier Development League’s Final Four.

Zator’s goal in the 80th minute lifted FC Calgary Foothills to a 2-1 win over FC Tucson Saturday night in the Western Conference Championship at Kino North Stadium.

This was the third straight year FCT had hosted the Western Conference Final and it’s the third straight year in which they came out on the short end.

Calgary took the lead near the end of the first half in stoppage time on a goal by Dominic Russo.

FC Tucson (12-2-2) found the equalizer in the 65th on a laser of a corner kick by Ozzie Ramos that was pounded in by Kyle Adams.

It was a corner kick that would allow the Foothills to re-take the lead. Zator dropped the entry pass from Elijah Adekugbe off his chest, to his right foot and past FC Tucson goal keeper Thomas Olsen.

Calgary Foothills (11-3-3) in just their second season goes from 3-7-2 to the Final Four.

Two other PDL conference championships were decided on Saturday. The Michigan Bucks won the Central Conference beating Des Moines 2-0.

Midland/Odessa knocked off Oklahoma City in penalty kicks to win the Southern Conference.

Ocean City (NJ) will play Reading United Sunday night for the Eastern Conference Championship.
