What exactly is Marcel Yates’ Arizona Wildcats defense going to be when the wrapping comes off on September 3rd at the University of Phoenix Stadium?
Right now only he, head coach Rich Rodriguez and his defensive assistants know for sure as far as the actual schematics of it.
We may begin to get an inkling when UA Football opens Fall Camp on Thursday, August 4.
“The best defense is a defense that is on the sideline,” said Yates.
It’s clear the new boss is about two things in particular; tackling and turnovers.
He wants UA’s defense to take the ball away from the opposition and if possible, take that ball away and score it into the end zone.
Yates says his hope is to take Arizona to the Top 20 in both scoring defense and turnovers (total and margin).
UA last season ranked near 100th in the country in all of those categories.
