TSPL closes with a bang

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It was a packed house at The Gregory School for the final day of the 2016 Tucson Summer Pro League.

Truly Nolen won the league championship with a 108-99 victory over Crest Insurance.

Deion James (Empire ’14) scored 31 points for the winners. He played in 21 games last season for North Carolina A&T where he scored 27 total points.

James has since transferred back to Tucson and will compete his sophomore season this winter for the Pima Aztecs.

Crest Insurance’s Durelle Bailey led all scorers with 35 points.

Pima Basketball alum Gary “G” Smith won the TSPL’s annual slam dunk contest, edging UA Track All-American high jumper Nick Ross.

It was Smith’s second TSPL dunk title (2011). He took home a prize of $1,000.

Pima Federal Credit Union won the Kids’ league championship with a 68-56 victory over the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
