School's back in session, and we want to remind you to slow down when you're driving through a school zone. We shouldn't have to tell you to do this, but the numbers are proving us wrong.
Last year, Tucson police stopped more than 500 people for speeding in school zones. We're already hearing about dozens of stops this year for speeding. The school zones are clearly marked with signs saying 15 miles per hour, and running behind is no excuse to go barreling through them. It's also illegal to pass in marked school zones, and it's illegal to pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign.
Local police departments are keeping their eyes on school zones. If you don't keep an eye on your speedometer, they'll have a ticket for you.
