Too much Maas for Walden Grove

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Mitch Maas intercepted two passes and scored a rushing touchdown as Pusch Ridge Christian Academy earned their first win of the season with a 22-12 home win over Walden Grove.

Maas and Dakota Haynes helped pick up the slack in the Lions (1-1) running game left by junior Tamerat McLeod who missed the game with an injured shoulder.

Haynes turned Maas’ first interception into a 15-yard touchdown run and an 8-0 lead.

Haynes scored again on a one-yard run after the Red Wolves (1-1) muffed a punt.

Walden Grove would answer in the second quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Nick Flores to Travis Shannon.

The Lions took a 22-6 lead into the break thanks to a four-yard touchdown run by Maas.

The Red Wolves cut that lead to 22-12 on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Ty Chapman to Shannon early in the third quarter.

That would be all Walden Grove could muster though as the Lions put the clamps on Red Wolves running back Isaiah White all night.

Walden Grove plays at Santa Rita in Week 3 while PRCA travels to Safford.
