MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Marana police arrested a driver who had been driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 Saturday night and charged him with extreme DUI.

An "attempt to locate" call came in a little after 11 p.m. after several 911 callers reported a wrong-way driver heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate, said Sgt. Chris Warren, an MPD spokesman.

Marana police were dispatched to help the Department of Public Safety, and they located the driver and arrested him at West Marana and North Sandario roads, Warren said.

The man was arrested for "extreme driving under the influence," which means he had a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher within two hours of driving or being in control of a vehicle.

That arrest was one of three DUI arrests MPD made Saturday night, Warren said.

Labor Day weekend is historically one of the deadliest on Arizona's roads, according to Pima County Sheriff's deputies who were working a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night.

DUI enforcement patrols will go on through Monday, they said.

It may be bad news for a bear spotted several times in an area in Rio Rico the last few weeks, state wildlife workers may have to put it down.  However, they may not have to kill it, IF neighbors change their ways.
