1 of 2 suspects arrested in connection with stabbing, attempted armed robbery

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tips from the public led to the arrest of a Tucson man in connection with a Sept. 1 stabbing and attempted armed robbery at a pizza restaurant on Tucson's west side.

Police say 18-year-old Alex Joseph Haider turned himself in to officers on Sunday night, Sept. 3.

Another suspect is still being sought. Police say he is described as a White man, 5'9" tall, 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Haider was booked into the Pima County Jail on the following charges: attempted armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a weapon, kidnapping and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

According to police two men entered the Chariot Pizza at 3930 N. Flowing Wells Road through an unlocked back door just before 11 p.m., after the business had closed. One suspect allegedly sprayed an employee with what appeared to be pepper spray and got into a struggle with a second employee. During the struggle, the second suspect allegedly stabbed the employee several times. The first suspect also allegedly stomped on the employee.

The stabbing victim was taken to Banner-University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The employee who had been pepper-sprayed was treated at the scene.

The two suspects fled on foot after attempting to take money from the cash register, police said.
