TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson residents will finally start to see changes on a major city road after voting to improve it a decade ago.

Last week, transportation officials with the city of Tucson held an open house to talk about the final design plan for the Broadway Improvement Project.

The plan is about 60 percent complete.

A two-mile stretch of Broadway Boulevard from Camino Seco to Houghton Road will be widened from two lanes to four, with a median separating both sides.

Other improvements include 5-foot bike lanes in each direction, ADA compliant sidewalk, Bike/HAWK Signal at Gollob Road, and LED roadway lighting.

City officials say residents should be excited for the new drainage and water harvesting system that will keep the road from flooding during the monsoon.

The new system will also prevent cracks and potholes from forming.

The city still wants to hear from you regarding your thoughts on the project.
