Arizona Volleyball gets a losing and winning sweep

TUCSON, AZ -

Arizona split its first two matches at the Borderland Invitational in a pair of sweeps, falling to No. 16 Texas A&M (25-16, 26-24, 25-20) before defeating Sacramento State (25-18, 25-18, 25-12).

Penina Snuka had 21 assists in the opening match, giving her exactly 4,000 for her career. Snuka is the fifth Wildcat to reach the 4,000 assist plateau.

“This morning was disappointing,” said head coach Dave Rubio of the early match vs. Texas A&M. “I didn’t think we handled Texas A&M’s pressure very well. We were uncharacteristically error-prone, but a lot of that had to do with Texas A&M. It was nice to get a win against Sacramento State. We’ll need to play cleaner and sharper moving forward.”

UA closes out the event with the host, New Mexico State, Saturday at 1 p.m. MST.
