UPDATE: Mexican national, passenger injured in Thursday shooting at Nogales port

NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Officials with Customs and Border Protection have released more information about an officer-involved shooting in Nogales on Thursday, Sept. 8, that left two people injured.

No agents were injured in the incident at the Mariposa port of entry.

CBP officers on foot shot 26-year-old Mexican national and his 16-year-old passenger after the man accelerated his pickup toward them, according to a CBP news release.

The man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is being treated at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson. The teen sustained non-life-threatening injuries and he is in Border Patrol custody.

Border Patrol agents had been following the pickup during an investigation of smuggling activities west of the port. The truck sped away, but was stopped in traffic bound for Mexico when the agents caught up to it.
