Blake's time is now

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson’s Blake Martinez will start the first game of his NFL career.

The 2012 Canyon del Oro High School grad will be in the middle linebacker position when the Green Bay Packers travel to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

The game will be televised locally here in Tucson on FOX 11 beginning at 10 a.m.

Martinez was the Packers 4th round pick this year after a stellar career at Stanford.

He finished his collegiate career with 257 tackles (137 solo), 13.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions and five forced fumbles in 51 games played.

Martinez started all 27 games played in his final two seasons.

He will wear the communications helmet for the Green Bay defense and be charged with the responsibility of transmitting calls from defensive coordinator Dom Capers to the rest of the defense.
