BISBEE, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It’s a way that connects Sierra Vista and Bisbee.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, 3,600 cars travel across the bridge each day and now it will have a new look by summer 2017.

The San Pedro River Bridge, built in 1955, is being replaced at a cost of $4.3 million. ADOT crews began construction this week.

The new bridge will be a 362-foot long, three-span concrete girder bridge. There will be 12-foot wide travel lanes and 10-foot wide shoulder on each side.

The bridge will also be slightly higher to provide clearance over the river.

Traffic will be allowed across the bridge during construction. ADOT said it will move traffic to one side of the bridge while crews work and then back to the other side.

Drivers can expect short delays as ADOT has placed a traffic light at each end of the bridge.
