TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - International Walk and Bike to School Day is on Oct. 21 and Pima County is looking for schools - public, private, and charter to participate in the event.
The event is to encourage students and more often than not their parents to discover healthy, car-free ways to get to school. The Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) Bicycle and Pedestrian Program and the Department of Environmental Quality Clean Air Program (PDEQ CAP) are sponsors for this annual event.
"It is always exciting to see schools engaging in this event that is so beneficial for our community in multiple ways," said Matt Zoll, Program Manager for PCDOT in a recent release.
Pima County will provide prizes and incentives to the schools including scooters (while supplies last), pencils and color posters to help promote the event, according to the release. In order for schools to receive a free scooter for a student and the family participation encouragement prize is Oct. 3.
