SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A person is dead and another seriously injured after a head-on collision in Sierra Vista Saturday evening.

The Sierra Vista Police Department received a call at 7:33 p.m. regarding the crash, which happened where Highway 90 crosses Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway / East Charleston Road, according to Commander Lawrence Boutte of the Sierra Vista PD.

It's still early in the investigation, he said, but so far investigators have determined that a 2003 Buick four-door sedan and a 1999 Isuzu collided, killing a passenger in the Buick and causing its driver to be transported to Canyon Vista Medical Center with plans for that person to be flown to Tucson for further care.

If anyone from the Isuzu was injured, it was minor, as nobody was transported to the hospital, Boutte said, adding that police haven't yet determined which way the vehicles were traveling, due to conflicting witness statements.

As of 9:30, the roads were still closed while investigators reconstructed the collision, but Boutte said they likely would reopen in another hour.
