TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Drug smugglers are known for their creativity.

There have been reports of smugglers using ultra-light aircraft, drones and even catapults to get their product into the U.S.

A recent discovery in a small Mexican border town near Douglas, AZ takes the cake.

According to a news release from the Comisión Nacional de Seguridad, authorities found a modified van with a 9-foot air cannon.

The cannon could have been built to shoot drugs across the border, authorities said.

The van, reported stolen out of Hermosillo, Sonora, in July, was found last week in the town of Agua Prieta.

Authorities said they found a nine-foot tube, air compressor, gas engine and air tank inside the vehicle.

The cannon would have functioned similar to a potato gun.

A portion of the back of the van had been cut out, possibly to allow the user to aim the cannon.
