PHOENIX, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Attorney General Mark Brnovich said agents are searching for six people indicted for alleged involvement in the so-called "Black Money Scam."

The AZAG said the suspects involved in the scam claim to smuggle currency that is dyed black to avoid detection. The scammers will then try to convince victims to purchase the smuggled money, along with a special chemical that returns the money to a usable form. Scammers will sometimes even perform a demonstration on real currency.

The six suspects are:

  • Diamond Prempeh
  • Mousa Toure
  • Angel Latrice Cowen
  • Samuel S. Johnson
  • Michael Gray (a/k/a Kennah Morris)
  • Ali V. Konneh

The money the victim actually receives is just black construction paper made to appear real and the special chemical is only vitamin C and water, according to the release.

The AG said this scam targets individuals who are unlikely to contact law enforcement.
