ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sahuaro has stated their case on the floor that they are the #1 girls’ volleyball team in Southern Arizona.

The 3rd ranked Cougars went on the road Wednesday night into the hostile gym known as “Our House” and beat #2 Ironwood Ridge 3-1. Brielle Sterns, who is committed to play collegiately at New Mexico State, and Abby Nash both led Sahuaro with 16 kills.

The Cougars as the 8th ranked team in 5A two weeks ago pulled off a three-set home sweep of #3 Cienega.

Sahuaro (17-3) must bounce right back from the victory over Ironwood Ridge and face the now 5th ranked Bobcats again Thursday night. This time down in Vail.

The Nighthawks (15-13) suffered their second home setback in as many weeks as they fell to Cienega last week 3-2.

Both teams competed this past weekend at the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions up in Phoenix.

Sahuaro finished 5-2 at the event and in third place in the Diamond bracket.

Ironwood Ridge posted a 1-6 mark, placing sixth in the Bronze bracket.

The Ridge hits the road this weekend for more tournament action as the ladies will head to Southern California to play in the Torrey Pines California Challenge.
