White beats Red as pro hockey is reborn in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Professional hockey officially arrived back in Tucson on Sunday as the Arizona Coyotes WHITE beat the Arizona Coyotes RED 7-5 in a scrimmage at the Tucson Arena in front of an estimated 4,500 fans.

The game featured a mix of the NHL squad and players within the organization who will front the club’s American Hockey League team in Tucson.

The Coyotes purchased their top farm franchise earlier this year and announced in the spring that they would relocate the team closer to their base of operation in Glendale.

The lights go on for both teams this weekend.

Tucson will play their first three games on the road starting with an affair Friday night in San Diego.

Arizona opens the season at the Gila River Arena on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.
