TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson-based aerospace company announced it will be locating its manufacturing headquarters at the Pima County Aerospace, Defense and Technology Business & Research Park.

Vector Space Systems, a micro satellite space launch company, along with Pima County and the Arizona Commerce Authority are leading the facility development through a public-private partnership agreement.

"With this announcement, Vector Space Systems becomes the second tenant of the County's Aerospace, Defense and Technology Business & Research Park in the Sonoran Corridor, joining World View," Pima County's administrator Chuck Huckelberry said.

According to the county, the company will add 200 jobs to the region over the next three years with an average salary of $75,000. The company is expected to make a capital investment of $19 million over that time and up to $50 million over 15 years.

"In addition, the company is expected to have a total (direct and indirect) economic impact on the region of $290 million over the next five years," Pima County public communications manager Mark Evans said.

Co-founder and CEO Jim Cantrell spoke at a press conference about the announcement on Thursday, Oct. 13, and said they consider Arizona home "because they believe in its potential as a competitive tech hub.'"

"You don't have to work for NASA, you don't have to work for the Air Force to build these satellites," Cantrell said. "They're coming out of universities and in some cases, literally people's garages. So we see that trend continuing and we actually see ourselves as the equivalent of the PC, and we're at the forefront of building that infrastructure."
