Arizona volleyball lost in five sets to California on Sunday (22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 11-15). The loss denied Arizona of its fourth straight victory in California after consecutive wins over USC, UCLA and Stanford.
“It’s unfortunate we weren’t prepared to play,” said head coach Dave Rubio. “There was certainly a lot at stake and we didn’t take advantage of the opportunity that was presented.”
Arizona struggled from the service line, accumulating 14 service errors in the match, tying a season high.
The loss was just Arizona's second loss this year to an unranked opponent.
“Cal played well but we were really poor,” said Rubio. “We were poor both physically and mentally. We were not ready to play.”
In Friday's four-set victory over Stanford, Snuka had 59 assists, one shy of her career high and the second most in the Pac-12 this year. On Sunday, she matched it. Snuka had 59 assists and 12 digs, good for her 12th double-double of the year.
Laura Larson had 19 digs to lead the team.
Kendra Dahlke led the Wildcats with 19 kills. Kalei Mau (18 kills, .319 hitting) and Katarina Pilepic (17 kills, .387 hitting) also posted impressive offensive numbers for the Cats.
Arizona will host Washington State (Friday) and Washington (Sunday) this week in its return to McKale Center.
